We were recently contacted by a scam artist offering to purchase our RV unit with payment of a cashier's check over our asking price. The "buyer" sent us a cashier's check that was $26,000.00 (twenty-six thousand dollars) above our selling price. He instructed us to deposit the cashier's check and to notify when that was completed. He would then direct us where to send the extra $26,000.00 to the"shipper". Rather than depositing the check into our personal accounts I went directly to the bank that supposedly wrote the check. The manager of the bank checked the routing # and account # on the check. Although, the account # was a valid # the routing number was incorrect. Also, the "buyer" stated that he was out of state and in Ohio or somewhere near there. In actuality, the priority mail tracking number indicated that the package was sent out of Temcula, CA. The "buyer" continued to contact us by email instructing us to deposit the check and notifying him when that was done. We never did deposit the check and for several days "the buyer' continued to send us emails inquiring if we had deposited the check. The "buyer" has not communicated with us for several days now which confirms that it was a "scam".
