  • Be My Guest – Free Camping Offered by Fellow RVers

Are you tired of paying for a full-service RV park for a simple stopover? Possibly, all you really need and want is a place to park for a night while you pass through or briefly explore an area.  Isn’t this exactly why truck stops, casinos, and Walmart parking lots are such popular stops?

Now there’s a more appealing option: Boondockers Welcome can connect you with more than 1,000 fellow RVers across the continent, who invite you to park for free on their private property for a night or two. Many also provide electric, water, and a better wi-fi signal than you’ll get at most campgrounds. No matter what route you choose, you can arrange safe, legal, free overnight parking all the way to your destination.

Moreover, you might begin amazing new friendships, include a bit of social time, be able to borrow a tool you’re not carrying, find out about the “must-sees” of the area, and the stops you shouldn’t miss on the road ahead.  Who better than locals to hand you maps, point out their favorite hike, best restaurant, cheapest fuel price, nearest RV dump, and a trusted RV repair facility?

The Boondockers Welcome website (boondockerswelcome.com) facilitates invitations between like-minded RVers. Annual membership is less than the cost of one night in a campground. For those who cannot offer parking themselves, there’s a guest-only option. You can view all the details of every host location before joining so you know exactly what you’ll get.

As one reviewer of the site noted, “The simple ideas are often the best and most innovative”.  This simple idea is not just an online community; it is fostering new friendships among RVers in real world settings. At a time when some RVers may be on the verge of hanging up the keys or traveling less because of increased costs, it offers a cooperative way to fight back so we can all stay where we belong – on the road.

  • #ThisisRVing

This summer, RV Trader is partnering with Fulltime Families and Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts to show America what RVing really looks like.

The Fulltime Families 6-member crew will visit 7 Jellystone Parks across 5 states and stop in at 4 of America’s best RV Trader dealerships to see family-friendly layouts available on dealer lots this summer.

Traveling full-time in their RV since 2010, Kimberly and her family are encouraging other families across our great nation to go on adventures together and reap the rewards of family Rving.

The journey is currently unfolding across social media as the family gives a front row seat to this 1,000 mile journey from Sunny Florida to Elkhart, IN – the home of many trendsetting RV manufacturers.

Through articles, Instagram shots and YouTube videos, newbies and veteran Rvers alike will become road trippers, witnessing first-hand what it really looks like to RV as a family.

Will you join us on the adventure?

  • Looking for a Community of RVers?

Spending your days on the road can get lonely, can’t it? Even if you’re traveling with another person, or a pet, it’s still nice to meet friendly new faces and share your experiences with those who can relate. Nearly 40 years ago, our founders, Joe and Kay Peterson, felt the same way as they traveled the country with their young family, and they decided to do something about it. Welcome to Escapees RV Club!
We are a full-service organization that offers a wide variety of benefits specific to the needs of RVers. Do you travel part-time? We can help with finding discounted parking, planning your route, and tackling emergencies along the way. If you RV full-time, there are even more benefits suited to your needs! We can assist in establishing your domicile, and our mail service will treat your correspondence with care, forwarding it to wherever you may roost. All of our members may take advantage of our RVers Boot Camp, hosted by our experts in RV safety. This is a great way to learn more about how best to operate and maintain your rig in a welcoming and fun environment.
Most importantly, Escapees was established to offer RVers a feeling of community and camaraderie. There are abundant opportunities to connect with other members through our organization. We offer a discussion forum, where members share experiences and advice on a wide variety of subjects, as well as opportunities for face-to-face interaction through our chapter activities, Head Out Program, Birds of a Feather groups, and our biggest event, Escapade.
Escapade is the highlight of our event schedule. You’ll meet fellow RVers from all over the country and all walks of life, experiencing the great things RVing has to offer. This year, our 56th gathering will be in Essex Junction, Vermont, July 24-29. Join us for six days packed with educational seminars hosted by industry experts, group discussions led by qualified members, live music, and plenty of occasions for socializing!

  • 5 Under $50: Little RV Items that Make a Big Difference

There is no shortage of gear available to the RV enthusiast. You could go broke stocking up on all of the gadgets that some consider absolutely necessary for an enjoyable RV trip.
But over the years, we’ve found it’s the little things that make a big difference in our travels. Some items we use over and over again, whether on fall weekend trips or month-long summer adventures.
Here are five inexpensive products that you will always find in our RV. They don’t cost a lot of money, but offer lots of bang for the buck.
    Premium Tire Pressure Gauge, ~$30
Talk to any RVer long enough and you will probably hear a tire blowout story. Test your tire pressure on every single traveling day to prevent this from happening to you. We learned this lesson the hard way, and now we have tire safety religion. A Premium Tire Pressure Gauge works well for us, and we actually travel with an air compressor as well, so we don’t have to worry about finding a gas station pump.
Nightstick Dual Light with Dual Magnet Flashlight, $32
We use a flashlight so often at the campground that it was worth it to spend a bit extra for a quality one. We love this Nightstick, which has two lights–one that shines forward and one that casts light down toward the ground. Two built-in magnets allow it to hang nicely on the RV fridge so it’s always easy to find.
Collapsible Containers – varying prices, ~$10
Anything that folds down flat when not in use is a bonus for RV travel. Bins are so versatile and can be used inside or outside the camper for laundry, sports equipment or garbage. We particularly love how they make unpacking a breeze at the end of a trip.
Packing Cubes, 3 Piece Set, $25
Closets and cabinets can get messy fast in an RV, and packing cubes are one of the best ways to keep clothing organized on a trip. Every family member has a different color, and our kids store theirs at the end of the bunks. You will be amazed at how much can fit into a single cube!
    French Press Coffee Maker, $32
We love our coffee, and we take camp coffee pretty seriously. After experimenting with many different products, the French Press has earned a permanent place in our RV. Since no electricity is required, you can easily use it even when boondocking or dry camping. We use the 34-ounce model because, with three young kids, there is never enough coffee in the morning.

  • Outdoors in the Fall: Things to Do and Places to Go

    By RV Trader
Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont display some of the most spectacular fall foliage you’ll find in the country. Peak leaf peeping season falls between early September and mid-October. Cooler temperatures, fewer mosquitoes, and colorful landscapes make fall an ideal time to RV in New England.

    Maine
For spectacular autumn views, take a drive up Route 1 from Old Orchard Beach along the scenic Maine coastline where you can enjoy detours for spectacular photography opportunities and explore areas such as downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It’s the perfect time to enjoy a leisurely drive through Acadia on the Park Loop Road, without the hordes of bumper-to-bumper tourists you would see during the summer.

The campgrounds and RV parks located near Baxter State Park, home of Mount Katahdin. With over 200 miles of hiking trails and various ponds and lakes for boating, outdoor enthusiasts can truly experience “The Way Life Should Be” while camping in this region of northern Maine.

    New Hampshire
New Hampshire’s White Mountains National Forest is another magnificent destination for your autumn RV adventure. This family-friendly region offers a variety of attractions for kids, including the Conway Scenic Railroad and gondola rides up beautiful Wildcat Mountain. The 1200 miles of ATV-accessible trails make New Hampshire the off-roading headquarters of New England.

    Vermont
Active RVers can also enjoy over 700 miles of hiking trails and an extensive network of biking roads throughout the Green Mountains of Vermont. Plus, fall is peak harvest time in Vermont, so be sure to stop at one of the many roadside farm stands you’ll see along the way, offering tasty treats like native apple cider and real maple syrup. Better yet, pick your own apples fresh off the branch at a local orchard.
There’s nothing quite like the beauty of nature’s changing palette in New England. Crisp autumn air and carpets of freshly fallen leaves provide the perfect backdrop for a memorable RV road trip.
