Verde Ranch RV Resort Crowned Campspot’s Best Campground of 2025

Campspot has announced its Best Campgrounds in North America of 2025. The company, which provides management and reservation software for campgrounds, bases its awards on user review and feedback. For those looking for a getaway this year, you won’t go wrong with one of the winning campgrounds on the list.

“The Campspot Awards aim to recognize those parks that are delivering outstanding guest experiences and embodying the spirit of modern camping,” said Erin Stender, CMO of Campspot. “This year’s winners represent the variety and depth of camping in North America today. From peaceful retreats where you can disconnect to adrenaline-pumping destinations perfect for families, we’re thrilled to showcase parks that are truly exceptional. Every campground on this list provides a unique experience for campers, and they’ve earned their place as the best in the business.”

Campspot’s 2025 Top Campgrounds in the US

    1. Verde Ranch RV Resort, Camp Verde, AZ
    2. Broad River Campground, Mooresboro, NC
    3. Sun Retreats Lancaster County, Narvon, PA
    4. Sun Outdoors Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, TN
    5. Jellystone Camp-Resort: Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg, TX
    6. St. Augustine RV Resort, St. Augustine, FL
    7. Riverwalk on Yadkin RV Park, Jonesville, NC
    8. Fair Harbor RV Park & Campground, Perry, GA
    9. The Beach Camping Area, Conway, NH
    10. Jellystone Camp-Resort: Gardiner, Gardiner, NY

In addition to an overall top 10 for US and Canada, the Campspot awards also featured a variety of top 5 lists, including: the best campgrounds for RVs, tent camping, and glamping; unique campgrounds and hidden gems; the best for quiet getaways or families; and by size – small, medium, and large.

For RVs, here are three award-winning additional parks not listed in the top 10:

“The winners of the 2025 Campspot Awards each offer a distinct experience,” said Stender. “Whether it’s the unique desert landscapes of Ramble at Great Sand Dunes National Park, the peaceful riverside views and outdoor adventures at RiverWalk on the Yadkin, or the expansive amenities at River Sands RV Resort, there’s something here for everyone. It’s not just about the location—these parks create experiences that resonate with campers long after they’ve packed up.”

  • Survey Says: Fewer No-Shows and Cancellations as Campers Get More Responsible

Survey Says: Fewer No-Shows and Cancellations as Campers Get More Responsible

Despite ongoing complaints of no-shows at many campgrounds, particularly public places, the incidence of campers bailing on their reservations has in fact decreased significantly this past year, according to web booking service The Dyrt. The company’s 2025 Camping Report – which surveyed campers who use its app, camping property managers, and residents across the US – states that cancellations and no-shows dropped by 16.7% in 2024 compared to 2023. Additionally, 70.7% of campers reported using all of their reservations for the year, an 11.8% increase.

The decrease in campers canceling or breaking their reservations was seen across all categories tracked by the survey – including campers who arrived one or more days late (3.7%, down 0.5% from 2023), and those who left the campsite early (12.8%, down 3.9%). Of the campers who remembered to cancel their reservation – accounting for 32.7% of survey respondents – fewer than one-quarter did so less than two days in advance (6.9% overall, down 3.8%).

Interestingly, there appears to be a correlation between a camper’s reported income and their likelihood of no-showing a reservation (though this too is self-reported). The overall percentage of campers who said they did not show up to a reservation in 2024 was 4%. However, this rate was higher, at 5.8%, among those who earned more than $250,000 per year – 45% greater than the norm. In the next income bracket, $101,000–$250,000, the rate was 4.4%. For those earning $50,000–$100,000, the rate was 3.2%. Finally, only 2.1% of the group earning under $50,000 annually admitted to no-showing a reservation in 2024.

“I think there’s increasing awareness of the fact that it hurts other campers to reserve a campsite and leave it empty and the camping community is stepping up to do better,” says The Dyrt founder Sarah Smith, who also cites recent legislation in California and Washington, which limits stay lengths and caps total nights, as factors encouraging campers to cancel well in advance. The new rules also mean that fewer frivolous reservations are made in the first place.

“The fact that cancellations and no-shows went down significantly is very encouraging,” says The Dyrt CEO Kevin Long. “Fewer sites are going to waste, more campers are able to secure a spot, and property owners and managers have more predictability. It’s a positive for everybody.”

  • New RV Campground in Pipestone, Montana to Open in September

New RV Campground in Pipestone, Montana to Open in September

Travelers looking for an activity hub in the “Moab of Montana” will soon have a new campground to visit. Bozeman CBS affiliate KZBK 7 reports the Pipestone RV Park is working through its finishing touches, with a scheduled opening date of September 2024.

The new RV campground was the brainchild of local resident Keith Curtis, who has vacationed in the Pipestone region for over 15 years. Although the area was popular with nature lovers for the unique rock formations, it was difficult to navigate for those who travel the country in RVs.

Pipestone RV Park Slated for 80 Full Hookups, Lounge, and Other Amenities

Keith and his partners have been working on developing the park for nearly six years. Once the new park opens, it will offer 80 RV spots with full power, water, and sewer hookups, alongside 31 cabin and tent sites. Amenities at opening will include a check-in building, general store, lounge, three shower houses, and around 20 bathrooms. Future plans include pickleball courts, horseshoe pits, and a family playground.

Locals who have seen the development come together say the RV park will be a welcome addition to the community and offer campers a place to come and enjoy the many outdoor activities in the area. From off-road vehicles to hiking, those who frequent Pipestone say the park will give travelers even more options to enjoy nature’s beauty.

“What makes Pipestone so special is its unique rock formations,” Keith told KZBK. “You have the ringing rocks. Then you have areas like the Flintstone house. And you have Delmoe Lake up here too, so you have some bodies of water. And not to mention a huge network of trails”.

  • Rolling into the Best RV Parks: What To Look For When Picking an RV Park to Stay In

Rolling into the Best RV Parks: What To Look For When Picking an RV Park to Stay In

Have you ever rolled into an RV park and felt like you’d just found your home on the road? That’s the goal for all of our adventures, but it’s not always that easy. Finding an RV park that doesn’t just feel like a parking lot but more like a “home sweet home” makes a world of difference. Let’s take a look at the must-have amenities that make an RV park a traveler’s paradise.

    Full Hookup Stations

Let’s start with the basics! Good RV parks roll out the red carpet with hookup stations that make life easier. Water, electricity, and sewer facilities are a breeze to access, removing headaches before they ever start. It’s like they’ve thought of everything to make your stay smooth and hassle-free.

Wi-Fi that Works for the Whole Family

In this day and age, strong Wi-Fi isn’t just nice to have; it’s a necessity. Whether you’re mapping out tomorrow’s route, sharing your travel pics, or Netflixing after a day of exploring, reliable internet is a game-changer.

    Laundry Facilities Onsite

Having an onsite laundry facility is like finding a hidden treasure! It’s such a relief to freshen up your clothes without having to embark on a quest for a laundromat.

    Easy Parking

A place that makes parking feel like a breeze gets extra brownie points! Big, clear spaces and helpful signs or staff can turn the tricky task of parking into a stress-free experience.

    Fido-Friendly Space

Pet-friendliness can make or break an RV park—they’re part of your traveling pack, after all. Parks that welcome pets and make them feel at home with dedicated spaces such as dog parks and wash stations not only bring happiness to your pets, but also the rest of the family.

Playgrounds or Activity Areas for Kids

Spaces dedicated to play and fun for kids and pets? Yes, please! Parks that have safe and exciting areas where your little ones can unleash their pent-up energy from time on the road is such a win. Having the chance to enjoy family time together while making new friends with other families and their furry companions is what it’s all about!

    Proximity to Attractions

When you’re on the road, proximity matters. RV parks that offer easy access to nearby attractions are worth their weight in gold and can save you hours of driving time. Plus, getting to explore more places means adding exciting stories to your travel journal. It’s a win-win!

    Good Reviews

Don’t underestimate the power of a good review. Hearing about other travelers’ experiences can be the deciding factor when choosing an RV park. Take some time to read through reviews and see what others have to say about their stay—it could save you from ending up in a less-than-ideal location.

    Sparkling Clean Facilities

Cleanliness is essential for road trip happiness! Restrooms and showers that sparkle make you feel comfortable on the road. It’s the kind of detail that makes a stay so much more enjoyable. If you’ve ever experienced the opposite, you know exactly how much it can prevent a return visit to an otherwise awesome park.

    An Onsite Convenience Store

A park with a well-stocked store is like having a guardian angel. From snacks to those “oops, I forgot” items, an onsite convenience store is a real lifesaver for RVers on the move—especially after you’ve arrived, started unpacking, and realized you’re missing something essential.

    Fantastic Food Options

After a day of adventuring, having delicious food options right at the park is a dream come true! Whether it’s restaurant dining or even just a list of easy delivery options, good food brings happiness. Bonus points for top local cuisine – that’s sure to be mentioned on the checklist when deciding where to stay on the next trip through the area.

    What Brings It All Together?

The cherry on top? Parks that sprinkle some extra love with amenities like fire pits for nighttime storytelling or exceptional customer service that makes you feel like a VIP. Whether it’s a park employee who’s more than happy to help you park in a tight spot, or a list of the best late-night food delivery options, often it’s the intangibles that make a stop most memorable.

In the heart of every traveler is a desire for more than just a pit stop—it’s about creating memories and feeling at home wherever the road takes you. So, keep an eye out for these lovely perks. Here’s to finding RV parks that fill your journey with joy and ease!

  • 7 Activities to Share with Your Pet at RV Parks

7 Activities to Share with Your Pet at RV Parks

A camping getaway in your new or used RV isn’t just fun for you and your friends and family—it’s an adventure for your pets too! With parks situated near open fields, woodlands, mountains, and water, camping provides an endless playground for you and your four-legged friends. Some RV destinations are even dedicated exclusively to dogs and cats, with activities suited just for them. With proper planning and preparation, camping with your pet can create some of your favorite memories. Here are RV Trader’s top seven activities for pets at RV parks, plus advice for proper pet campground etiquette.

    1. Hiking

Many RV campgrounds are near national and state parks with hiking trails. This is a chance for you to take your pet out on a leash and explore new territory, whether that’s a leafy forest, rocky hillside, or rugged desert. Make sure in advance that the park you’re visiting is pet-friendly by checking their website or calling to learn about their pet policies.

    2. Swimming

Take your pup for a swim at RV parks located near water. Bring floating toys and play in shallow water or put on a life jacket onto your pet and go for a dip in the deep end. A doggy paddle is great exercise and will tire out your water-loving dog for when it’s time to relax in the RV.

    3. Completing Agility Courses

Let your pet run, jump, and climb over obstacles in an agility course at an RV park. Several campgrounds, such as Lake George RV Park in New York, have their own agility courses for off-leash dogs to stay active. If you’re staying at an RV campground with open space, you can also create your own obstacle course using trees as weave poles, stumps as hurdles, and picnic tables as tunnels. Just be sure to respect fellow campers if you’re sharing that open space.

    4. Visiting a Dog Park

Pet-friendly RV campgrounds often have enclosed parks where your dog can run free, play fetch, and meet fellow furry friends. Bring a ball and treats, and your dog is sure to have fun. While you may be allowed to take your dog off its leash, only do so if your dog is trained to immediately return to you when called. Be sure to keep a close watch on your pet when it meets new dogs and new people.

    5. Booking a Dog Spa Appointment

A dog spa? That’s right, at some RV parks, you can pamper your pooch with a spa treatment right at the campground. In North Carolina, 4 Paws Kingdom provides a doggy bathhouse and grooming station for you to clean and care for your pet. Or, if your pet is anxious about being touched by strangers, help them relax and refresh by grooming and massaging them yourself in the RV.

    6. Participating in Water Sports

Let your pet join you in a large canoe as you paddle and go fishing. With some practice and balance, your pet could also be trained to cruise across the water on a stand up paddle board. Whatever water activity you choose, don’t forget to strap a life jacket to your pet in case they decide to go overboard for a swim.

    7. Having a Pet Picnic

Grab a blanket and a basket with food, water, and treats to enjoy an afternoon picnic with your pet. At night, build a campfire—while your pet is on a leash—and have a cookout, sharing snacks with your pet while you both gaze at the stars.

    Pet Etiquette at RV Parks

There’s so much fun to share with your four legged friends at RV parks, but you should always remember to practice proper pet etiquette (or, should we say, “petiquette”). By being considerate of other RVers, you and your pet will be happy campers.

    • Contact the RV park to make sure they allow pets and see what their rules are regarding pets.
    • Have your vaccination records on hand, and be sure your pet is wearing a collar with updated tags that include your contact info. You should also consider having your pet microchipped.
    • Protect your pet and other pets with flea and tick medication.
    • Bring waste bags or a litter box and pick up after your pet when they relieve themself; designate an area away from other campers where it’s ok for your pet to relieve themself.
    • Keep your pet on a leash. With dogs, don’t let them approach, bark at, or disturb other animals.
    • Ask fellow campers for approval before you and your dog approach them. Similarly, ask fellow pet owners for approval before you pet their animal.
    • Keep your pet with you. Dogs that are left alone often get anxious and bark, whine, and disturb others.
    • Practice your commands and have your pet sit calmly when another person walks by. Definitely don’t let them jump onto other campers.
    • Bring food-stuffed toys to keep your dog busy.
    • Keep the noise down with your pet and be respectful of quiet hours.
    • When using a dog park, agility course, or specific area designated for pets, keep track of time and be considerate in case another pet owner would like to use the space for their pet.

RV parks have lots of fun activities that let you and your pet play and unwind outside at the campsite. By following proper RV etiquette, you’re bound to have a good time exploring the great outdoors with your pets. • Your Guide to Military Campgrounds

    Your Guide to Military Campgrounds

Did you know there are more than 250 military campgrounds across the United States? Not everyone is aware they exist, but both RV Trader and FMCA know that these sites are amazing resources. To help you learn more about these sites, FMCA has provided a breakdown of where you can find military campgrounds and who can book a reservation.

    About Military Campgrounds

Military campgrounds, which normally have RV hook-ups and tent spaces, are managed by the Army and Department of Defense service departments. Some are located near national parks or national attractions. Others, however, are specifically located on or near military bases.

Typically, these military campgrounds offer the same types of amenities as other private campgrounds, including laundry facilities, bathrooms, shower houses, and common areas. Some even have recreation areas, cabins, and other “luxury” amenities, earning them the nickname of “FamCamps.”

Military campgrounds normally charge less than private campgrounds, making them a more affordable option for military members traveling with family, especially those traveling with children. Daily and weekly rates vary by campground but typically range from $10 to $30 per night.

Locations vary across the U.S. For instance, California has the most military campgrounds, totaling 37. Other states like Iowa, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Connecticut do not have any military campgrounds within their borders.

These campgrounds are known for being generally well-kept and are managed by each individual military base. It’s important to note that rules and regulations can vary by campground, depending which base you are visiting.

Are They Open to the Public?

So, who is eligible to stay at a military campground? In general, these campgrounds are reserved for

    • active members of the military (as well as spouses and dependents),
    • military retirees (as well as spouses and dependents),
    • disabled veterans (as well as spouses and dependents),
    • National Guard or Reservists (as well as spouses and dependents),
    • Department of Defense workers (as well as spouses and dependents), and
    • surviving family members of service members killed in action.

As stated above, these eligibility requirements can vary by base.

People who are not connected to any sector of the military are not eligible to stay at these campgrounds, unless they are a guest of someone who is.

    Making Reservations

Reservation details vary by campground, and it is recommended to contact the base directly. Some campgrounds require that a reservation is placed in ample time prior to arrival; however, others are first come-first serve for a spot.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, visit MilitaryCampgrounds.us to browse through your camping options. The website was created by a veteran and provides details about military campgrounds in the U.S. You can also find military campground directories at AllStays.com and Military.com.

Many military members feel that these campgrounds help them stay connected. There are even military travel communities. One in particular is called S*M*A*R*T, which stands for Special Military Active Retired Travel Club. This organization plans activities and group gatherings for military members and their families.

FMCA has several chapters (special interest groups) for military members, and also offers a discount for veterans or active-duty military members who join the club.

Finally, if you’re a member or veteran of our nation’s armed forces, RV Trader and FMCA just want to say *THANK YOU* for your service and sacrifice.

FMCA educates, equips, and empowers RV owners in their journey to creating, experiencing, and benefiting from the outdoor lifestyle they dream of and deserve. FMCA is your ally to the outdoor lifestyle you love and enjoy.

How to Find Open Campgrounds During COVID-19

In these complicated times, it’s difficult to find anyone who hasn’t been affected by the global coronavirus pandemic. And with the closure of many state parks and RV campgrounds, RVers have been left to wonder where to go next. It’s hard to “stay in place” when you don’t have a place to stay.

We don’t pretend to have all the answers, but do feel it is our obligation to help in any way we can, and sometimes checking online can lead to information overload. For many people across the country, RVs aren’t just used for vacation, they are used as homes. This means that these parks and campgrounds that are closing are their homes as well.

So where should these RVers turn?

Luckily, FMCA has compiled a robust list of campgrounds that have indicated to them directly that they are open and still have vacancy. Visit FMCA’s blog, FMCAdventure, to view the complete list.

Please feel free to share it with anybody who may find it beneficial. And as information changes quickly, we recommend calling the RV campground ahead of time to confirm that they are in fact open before making the trip.
